Play buttons appear to be the market norm, while timestamps are dependent on company. User tests may be helpful to determine if timestamps provide better user experience.

  • All competitors differentiated their video content from articles by using a play button
  • Only 36.3% also used a Video tag
  • Of the companies that did use Video tags, 75% had videos integrated in their homepage, suggesting that additional differentiation can be helpful with integrated content

Should we choose to use integrated video content, Video tags may be a useful way to differentiate these from non-video articles. User tests can be conducted to determine if these additional tags are helpful to users.

  • All of them used Live tags to indicate this

Should we choose to include live content on the app, indicating it with a Live tag may improve clarity and would be consistent with market norms

  • Categories were only utilised by competitors that had a dedicated Video Page
  • 63.6% of competitors had a dedicated watch/video page
  • Of competitors that had a Video Page, 57.1% had categories; the remaining 42.9% had only featured, top, or trending videos

Since we will have a dedicated Video page, categories can be a useful way to help users find content they are interested in and keep them interested in our content.

  • 36.4% of competitors used recommended/watch next type features to encourage continued engagement

Recommended/watch next type features are not popular amongst competitors.
